Criteria

The Troy L. McKinney Reese Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship fund will award a scholarship to a graduating senior that participates in Cultural Arts (band, chorus, dance, orchestra, theatre arts and/or visual arts) at E. E. Smith High School in Fayetteville, N.C. The scholarship will be awarded in the fall of the academic year of the student’s freshman year and be payable ½ in the fall and ½ in the spring of the next academic year. The scholarship is not renewable and 1 year only. The maximum scholarship awarded to an individual under this program is based on funds available at the time of the grant.  

Requirements

 In order to be considered you must be:

  • A minority graduating senior from E. E. Smith High School in Fayetteville, N.C.


  • A student who is a participant in E.E. Smith High School's Cultural Arts.( band, chorus, dance, orchestra, theatre arts, visual arts)


  • A student who has applied and been accepted as an incoming freshman at a Historically Black College/University(HBCU). Because Troy attended North Carolina A & T State University applicants who plan to attend North Carolina A & T State University will be given first consideration during evaluation process.


  • A citizen of the United States or a U.S. Territory


  • Funds are to be payable to The University for the awardee's account and they are to be used for tuition, books, or room and board only


  • Student must not be a recipient of a full academic or athletic scholarship to the HBCU


  • Student must demonstrate a financial need for the funds as evaluated by the Scholarship committee


  • Criteria is based on a combination of academic performance, extracurricular activities and financial need

  1. Letter of Recommendation from someone of professional nature such as teacher, coach, club adviser, work supervisor or clergy member.
